Wow, they are all so cute. And such great pictures. How do you get them to be still so you can get such good shots? I have a camera full of back ends or backs or ears.
Kris... well, for one we have a very good camera that snaps pictures very fast :). Second there are 2 of us when we do the photos. One of us has the camera, the other sets the kids up and gets out of the photo asap. We snap, snap snap till we have probably 50 pictures of each kid - then go through and delete 75% of them.
Thanks, Suriyah. I figured you must have some help there.
Do you even have does that after kidding get really hard udders that isn't mastitis? The first doe to kid is a first freshener and her udder was hard the night before she kidded and has been hard as a rock ever since. She does not have mastitis. The kids are nursing just fine. When I do milk her, the milk is nice and white. No blockage at all. But just SO hard. I have been doing all kinds of things. Giving her LA200 and Combi Pen. And aspirin. Even a few days of Banamine. What's wrong with her?
Yes, I have had a few does like that. Typically it's just edema that goes away in a few days. How long ago did she kid? The best thing that should help with that are hot compresses and peppermint cream massages (get some coconut or olive oil and add a few drops of peppermint oil to it).
Sometimes if a doe has a really hard udder and you notice that within the first day, you can give 1/4 to 1/2 cc of oxytocin to help loosen things up.
Also, I wanted to point out - don't give LA200 and Penicillin at the same time. They cancel each other out.
I was doing the peppermint oil mixed with coconut oil in a rub. Also hot water compresses with peppermint EO. She had the kids Jan. 26th.I was wondering if I should have given her Oxy. Is it too late now? I am so upset because I just got her and another doe a few months ago for a milk goat. Now this. I ahve already milked my other first freshener and an older doe that both kidded at the same time Sunday morning.
Thanks so much for your help. I lmow you're really busy.
Yeah, I wouldn't give the Oxy now. It is a little late. You only want to give it within the first day that way if it does cause contractions it's not a big deal.
Otherwise, I'd just wait and keep milking her. It sounds like you've done most everything you can.
Hello! My name is Suriyah. Me and my family raise quality Mini-Nubians, Nubians, Alpines and Boers. We also have many other animals including sheep, llamas, donkeys, ponies, pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, quail, dogs and cats. Feel free to check out our website for more info and ask any questions you may have! I am also 18 years old and blessed to be the 4th of 11 children, living in the country in beautiful Oklahoma! Follow along my blog to read about our family's life and life on the farm, which will at times be happy and other times be sad :). But above all, make sure you fear God and believe the Bible. Have a good day and I hope you enjoy reading!
Do you like living in a FREE country? Do you like doing what you want to do - live on a ranch and have animals, have a garden, say what you want to say, believe what you feel is best to believe, go where you want to go, and so on? Do you want to be told by the government what you can and cannot do? Do you want a government which is going to demand you buy health insurance or be penalized? Do you want a government that is going to limit your knowledge of what food/vitamins may be helpful for you? Do you want a government that can tell you what you cannot do on your own land?
What about the worthless wars our country is in? Or the millions of babies who are aborted? What about the drones the government wants to use to spy on us? Or the high inflation of the dollar by the Federal Reserve?
I'm an American and want to continue to live a free life and do what I want to do on my own land, say what I want to say, believe what I feel is best to believe, go where I want to go, choose whether to have insurance or not, decide what food or vitamins I want to take and eat, and the list goes on and on.
I also care for the people of other countries whom we are invading, I care for their families who are in a constant state of war. I care for the babies who are murdered by abortion. I care for our soldiers who want to come home.
Because of this, I am a supporter of Ron Paul. He is the only one who ran for President who cares for people and has compassion, he wants to bring our troops home, he is a truly fiscal conservative and believes America should be ruled by the actual law of the land - our Constitution.
If you don’t know who he is or are not too sure about it - check out www.ronpaul2012.com.

Suriyah, Trudy's udder is softer today! It feels so much better. I just hope she's not going to be a bad milk goat. I will try. Thanks for your help.
