Attention to anyone who has emailed me within the past few months and has wanted a kid from us this year - if you could shoot me another email, that would be fabulous. My main computer has been in the shop and just got back today. Needless to say, kids are quickly being born and if you'd still like a kid, get in touch with us. Email me.

Sunday 2 more does kidded. Good Goats QW Drama Queen, the doe who had the crooked neck doe kid last year, kidded to a single, perfectly normal doeling. And nope, she is not available for sale ;).

A few hours later, our 9 year old MiniNubian doe, Dream Weaver's MoReen, kidded to triplets - a buck and 2 does. It's the first time she's had triplets, she has always had twins. I guess she's going out in her old age with a bang. They are all blue eyed as well.

About an hour ago I finally sat down at the computer and started typing this blog post. My sister came walking in the back door saying another goat had just had kids. It's an unregistered Nubian doe that we bought bred. She had a buckling and doeling, both with really long ears and extremely colorful. They are so cute... I am definitely partial to Nubian kids! They are fed and doing good. I'll have to let them dry off, get their feet underneath them and take pictures tomorrow morning.

We'll see who else has kids before the day is over...

Kids are here!

The first kids of the year arrived Monday night, the 21st. Yeah yeah I'm a slacker for not posting sooner... but the computer has been at the store getting repaired and I've been a bit busy. Nonetheless, here are a few kid pictures.

Monday night LaWanda (1st gen MiniNubian doe) kidded to twins, a buckling and doeling. 

Tuesday afternoon Verona (1st gen MiniNubian doe) kidded to QUADS - yes, quads out of that tiny goat. 2 bucks and 2 does. The sire to all 6 babies is our polled buck Wyatt. Everyone is doing pretty good and eating like bottle babies do.

The 2 boys below are available for sale. $50 each. They are able to be registered with the MDGA. The white one is out of Verona, and the black one is out of LaWanda. Email me or call (918-598-4007) if you're interested.

Ice, Snow & Baby Goats

Last night everything was covered in ice. Something that is a yearly occurrence here in Northeast Oklahoma. It makes for frozen gates, frozen shut doors, basically everything frozen. But it also makes everything look really pretty! We woke up this morning to all the ice covered in a little snow.

A couple cool pictures of the barn that my little sister took. It's been built for just about a year.... very thankful for it!

A couple of the doelings that are a few weeks old on their Boer cross mommas.

Social networking. It is how almost everyone connects these days. Whether it be Facebook, Pinterest, Google+, Twitter, etc. there are so many.

I thought I would post links here though to our pages on the various social networking websites for our ranch. We don't have accounts with all of them (after all, there like 15+), but I'm working on it ;). So here they are. Oh, and the difference between the pages? The "Liberty Ranch" pages are just general for the whole ranch, and the other pages are for specifics (i.e. goats, hay, etc).

Kidding Season?

What does kidding mean? It is the term for a goat giving birth. A goat kids. A goat in labor is a goat kidding.

Kidding season - a time of year that every goat rancher looks forward to, and then half way through wishes that it was already over with.

Only if you are a crazy one and breed way too many goats. Then on top of that, you are even crazier because you attend almost every single birth and take all the babies away from their mothers, milk the does multiple times a day and bottle feed the babies every 6 hours.

You'll be covered in hay, baby goat spit, milk, colostrum, birthing fluids, placentas will be the dogs treats for the day, and if you are ever looking for a workout there is a guarantee there will always be a stall waiting to be mucked out.

Then at midnight when there are 30 kids to bottle and then again at 6am, you may come to a realization that you are truly insane.

But, it's fun. There are lots of bouncing babies to prove just how fun kidding season is. Lots of pails full of beautiful creamy milk, and lots of fresh butter and cheese.

So who wants to visit Liberty Ranch in a few weeks when we are knee-deep in kids and witness the blissfulness of goat dairying, and maybe pull a few babies out?

Okay, I was kidding about the blissful part. But it's cool.

Happy New Year

Hello to my faithful blog readers. . . Happy New Year to you!

Yes, I know, I am a week late. Last Monday we had a party, as usual, for New Years. We had a great time. Before the party though, some of us had started to get sick. After the party, the Happy New Year sign was still up, except that the N in "new" had been torn down. So it says, "happy ew year". That accurately describes our new year thus far. Kind of funny.

Thankfully those of us who were sick are all on the uphill side of things... for now. Praise the Lord.

Last year was really an unexpected out of the ordinary year for me and my family. Our whole political involvement started a year ago, and that really was a huge part in a lot of what we did last year.

On the farm side of things, we had 110 kids born on the ranch and many lambs, bunnies, chicks, a donkey foal and whatever else that I am forgetting.

For the most part, things are going good though. Kidding season is scheduled to start in about 2 weeks, and I am certainly looking forward to it! We bred the does at very close intervals, so once kidding season starts, I don't think we'll be getting much rest for a while.
